Norway NOK, A4 Rules checked October 2026

What an invoice in Norway must include

  • Your name and organisation number; if you are in the VAT register, write MVA after the number (for example 123 456 789 MVA)
  • Customer’s name; their organisation number followed by MVA when the customer is VAT-registered
  • A sequential invoice number and the invoice date
  • Nature and extent of the goods or services, and the time and place of delivery
  • Price, payment due date, and the VAT amount in NOK (also on foreign currency invoices)

Rules worth knowing

  • You must register in the VAT register when taxable sales pass NOK 50,000 in a 12-month period.
  • Only businesses that are actually registered may charge VAT. If you invoiced with VAT before you were registered, issue a credit note and a new invoice.
  • A missing organisation number or missing “MVA” can cost your customer their VAT deduction, so keep both on every invoice.
  • Norway has proposed mandatory structured B2B e-invoicing. Sources give 1 January 2027 or 2028 and we found no rule in force yet, so check Skatteetaten before you rely on a PDF for a Norwegian business customer.
  • Norway is outside the EU, so the EU reverse-charge wording does not apply.
