Credit Note Generator
Correct or cancel an invoice the right way: a credit note with its own number, a reference to the original invoice and the tax reversed.
How to issue a credit note
- Put the original invoice number in Reference / PO.
- List what you are crediting: the full invoice, or just the returned items.
- Keep the same tax setup as the original so the tax is reversed at the same rate.
- Download and send it, and keep it with the original invoice in your records.
Frequently asked questions
When do I need a credit note?
When you need to reduce or cancel an invoice you have already issued: a refund, a returned item, an overcharge or a discount agreed afterwards. You should not edit or delete the original invoice.
What must a credit note show?
Its own number and date, the number of the invoice it corrects (put it in Reference), what is being credited, and the tax being reversed.
Do I enter negative amounts?
Enter the amounts you are crediting as normal positive figures. The document is titled Credit Note, which tells the client these amounts are owed back to them.
