Rules worth knowing

  • Since 1 January 2026, invoices between Belgian VAT-liable businesses must be structured e-invoices sent through the Peppol network. A PDF is not enough for a Belgian business customer, so use this tool for foreign clients, private customers, quotes and proformas.
  • The e-invoicing duty also applies to businesses in the small business franchise scheme (turnover up to €25,000). It does not apply to invoices to private individuals.
  • A VAT-registered business without an establishment in Belgium is not covered by the Belgian duty, although the law was still being amended on this point.
  • Selling services to a VAT-registered business in another EU country? Pick the reverse-charge setup: it charges 0% and prints the required wording. Show your client’s VAT number as well as your own.
