Frequently asked questions
What is a proforma invoice?
A preliminary bill sent before goods are delivered or work starts. It shows what the final invoice will say so the buyer can arrange payment, a letter of credit or import permits.
Is a proforma invoice a tax invoice?
No. It is not a demand for payment and is not recorded as a sale for VAT or GST. Issue a normal invoice once the supply happens.
When do exporters need a proforma invoice?
Customs brokers, banks and importers often ask for one to clear goods, apply for foreign exchange or open a letter of credit. Include quantities, unit prices, currency and delivery terms.
