What an invoice in Finland must include
- Invoice date and a unique sequential number
- Seller’s name, address and VAT number (FI + business ID without the hyphen)
- Buyer’s name and address
- Nature and quantity of the goods or services, and the supply date
- Taxable amount for each VAT rate, the VAT rate and the VAT payable
Rules worth knowing
- You are not liable for VAT if turnover in the current and the previous calendar year is at most €20,000 (the old graduated relief ended in 2025). Above that you must register from the day you pass the limit.
- A seller who is not in the VAT register must not show VAT or a VAT rate on the invoice. If registration is pending, write “VAT registration pending”.
- A buyer may ask you for an e-invoice in the European standard format, but there is no general B2B e-invoicing mandate in Finland. State bodies accept only e-invoices.
- Selling services to a VAT-registered business in another EU country? Pick the reverse-charge setup: it charges 0% and prints the required wording. Show your client’s VAT number as well as your own.
