What an invoice in Luxembourg must include

  • Invoice date and a unique sequential number
  • Your name, address and VAT number
  • Customer’s name and address, and their VAT number for B2B reverse charge
  • Quantity and nature of the goods or services, and the date of supply
  • Price excluding VAT, VAT rate and VAT amount
  • The exemption mention if you use the small business scheme

Rules worth knowing

  • Small businesses with turnover below €50,000 a year (since 1 January 2025) can use the VAT exemption. They charge no VAT and cannot recover input VAT.
  • Domestic B2B e-invoicing is not mandatory yet. A draft law (No. 8815, submitted to Parliament on 30 July 2026) would require structured Peppol e-invoices between Luxembourg businesses, with receiving from 1 January 2028 and issuing from 1 July 2028 or 1 January 2029 depending on size. It is not law until Parliament passes it.
  • Businesses supplying public bodies must already send structured Peppol e-invoices (since 18 March 2023).
  • Selling services to a VAT-registered business in another EU country? Pick the reverse-charge setup: it charges 0% and prints the required wording. Show your client’s VAT number as well as your own.
