  • Your CNPJ (or CPF), legal name and address
  • Your client’s CNPJ or CPF, name and address
  • Description of the service or goods, quantity and unit price
  • Date of issue and total amount
  • The tax lines the nota fiscal must show (ISS for services, ICMS for goods)

Rules worth knowing

  • Brazilian clients need a nota fiscal: NFS-e for services and NF-e for goods, issued through the city or national NFS-e system, not as a PDF. Use this tool for foreign clients, quotes and proformas.
  • The national NFS-e standard became mandatory for cities from January 2026 and is being rolled out to Simples Nacional businesses from the second half of 2026; check your city’s portal for your date.
  • ISS is set by each city, between 2% and 5% of the service price. Goods carry ICMS instead, which varies by state.
  • During 2026 the new CBS (0.9%) and IBS (0.1%) must be shown on notas fiscais as a test; companies that comply are not required to pay them yet.
  • To get paid, add your PIX key (CPF, CNPJ, e-mail, phone or random key) to the payment notes. Most Brazilian clients prefer it to a bank transfer.
